On August 11, a fire and explosion occurred at the MSC CAPETOWN III while berthing at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) in Colombo Port.
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) reported that the SLPA took prompt and effective action to successfully prevent potentially catastrophic consequences. The ship, which belongs to the SAFARI line, was unloading containers when the accident occurred. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Just a few days after the container explosion at Ningbo Port, the recurrence of such an incident sounded the alarm: in hot weather, pay attention to the dangers of shipping goods and remain vigilant.
